b'well COUNSELING SERVICES

Anxiety & Depression

At B’well, we recognize, value, and appreciate every feeling on the spectrum, and believe that true healing stems from widening our emotional range and staying connected with our core selves through every experience

Our human emotional spectrum spans an array of normal, valid, and true feelings, though some of our emotions may feel more comfortable to experience, process, or work through than others. Often, in an attempt to avoid the less comfortable feelings, we limit our entire emotional range. While this may allow us to bypass deep hurt and pain, it also cuts off our access to joy and happiness.

Anxiety

Anxiety can show up when we least expect it, especially when we assess the landscape of our lives and rationally see that there’s no realistic threat present. It creeps into our consciousness and can shake our experience. Anxiety has a way of creating a false sense of safety or protection but in reality can debilitate our daily functioning and stunt our personal growth.

When receiving anxiety therapy from B'Well...

  • we go beyond a cognitive therapy approach

  • we work with the mind-body connection

  • we explore the system that feeds an anxious, bracing posture

  • we integrate Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Internal Family Systems Therapy, and Brainspotting Therapy

  • we aim to complete the body's "stress response cycle"

  • our goal is to realign the brain and body from a state of threat to safety

Depression

Depression comes in waves. After we have exhausted our mental, psychological, or physical energy, we feel depleted and unable to move. Depression can last for a few hours, a few days, or even a few years. It can be all consuming and cyclically vicious by making the thought of even reaching out for much needed support an impossible task.

When receiving depression therapy from B'Well...

  • we appreciate the uniqueness of the therapeutic relationship

  • we assess the intersectional components of mood disorders

  • we connect the dots between experiences from the past and ways of functioning in the present

  • we encourage access of supports & resources that work alongside therapy

  • we reestablish connection with the body, specifically the autonomic nervous system, for stabilization and growth

  • we balance structure and habit with creativity and expression

Therapy for Anxiety & Depression

Work to Understand Your Feelings

Two of the most common emotional states that people land in while trying to avoid the “bad feelings” are anxiety and depression. While these may seem like they are on opposite ends of the spectrum, they are usually two sides of the same emotional coin and can cause a great deal of confusion, dysregulation, and discomfort in life.

B'Well's Promise

At B’well, we recognize, value, and appreciate every feeling on the spectrum, and believe that true healing stems from widening our emotional range and staying connected with our core selves through every experience, whether it feels good or “bad.” Instead of spinning in an anxious cycle or spiraling down a depressive pit, we encourage our clients to remain open, curious, and psychologically flexible.

We feel one of the most important aspects of working through anxiety and depression is education, which is why we help our clients learn how, when, and why these emotions show up in the brain and body. We also encourage individuals how to harness inner strength so that they can rewire old patterns and optimize functioning.

Anxiety and depression are normal- it is expected that in life these feelings will show up and it is inevitable for everyone, even therapists- but if they are seeming unmanageable or out of your control, know that we are here to help support your self-discovery and healing process.
