b'well COUNSELING SERVICES
Stress Management
At B’well we know that both eustress (“good” stress) and distress (“bad” stress) have an impact on how we show up in our daily lives and we help people process the stress they’re holding in their minds and bodies so that they can experience more mental flexibility.
“The good news is that stress is not the problem. The problem is that the strategies that deal with stressors have almost no relationship to the strategies that deal with the physiological reactions our bodies have to those stressors. To be “well” is not to live in a state of perpetual safety and calm, but to move fluidly from a state of adversity, risk, adventure, or excitement, back to safety and calm, and out again. Stress is not bad for you; being stuck is bad for you.”
- Emily Nagoski, Burnout: The Secret to Unlocking the Stress Cycle
The world around us is growing more and more set up to leave us feeling stressed, and that isn’t even the bad news. What’s really rough is that there are also fewer and fewer ways to release our stress in a time when connection is more often via screen time rather than through in-person community.
Fortunately, we also live in a time when, more than ever before, we’re discovering and uncovering details about the mechanics and effects of stress. For example, we now understand that not all stress is the same; we can experience both eustress and distress. Eustress promotes connectivity and productivity while distress has a detrimental effect on our functioning and well-being.

Therapy for Stress Managment
Healthfully Respond to Stress
For folks who frequently feel overwhelmed, it's easy to believe the solution will be found in avoiding stressful situations altogether . At B'well, as much as we can empathize with the desire to eliminate life’s stressors entirely, we know that our effort and energy is much better invested in learning how to healthfully respond to the stress that does show up.
B'Well's Promise
B’well’s therapeutic paradigm acknowledges that to fully rewire our response to stress we have to go beyond changing our thoughts and cognitions by bringing the body into the work. Through somatic interventions and the client’s innate wisdom, B’well therapists encourage a mind-body connection to help people move from a state of reactivity to responsiveness in the face of stressors, both big and small.
